The back-to-school tax-free holiday starts today, Friday, Aug. 10, 2018 in Texas and continues through Sunday, August 12.
Many stores will have extended hours, and online shopping is also included. The following categories are tax free as long as each individual item is under $100: clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks. Specialized athletic clothing, for example, golf cleats, is not included. Layaway purchases in these categories are also tax-free.
