Police responded twice to the same apartment complex Monday night, the second time to reports of shots fired

The Texas Rangers have begun an investigation into an incident in Greenville Monday night that ended with one man shot dead by Greenville police.

A City of Greenville release said officers first responded to an incident at the Ranch View Town Homes at 5700 Industrial Drive shortly before 6 o’clock yesterday evening. The release said officers responded to a disturbance involving residents of the complex. Police left, however, later that night, just before 9:30, officers returned to the apartments responding to a report of shots fired.

The release said officers found a man shooting both a rifle and a handgun. The release said that during the incident, the man raised a gun at police. Officers responded by shooting the man, who died at the scene. Following procedure regarding officer-involved shootings, the Texas Rangers have begun an investigation. The Greenville Police say they’re seeking more information about the incident and anyone with information is urged to contact the Greenville Police Department. City officials told KETR today that pending the completion of the Texas Rangers' investigation, they don’t expect to release any more details about the incident.
