May 12 Morning Newsacast: Candidates for Greenville police chief job to meet with public May 17

Acting Greenville police chief Will Cole is among the five finalists for the position.

  • In Greenville, interim Greenville Police Chief Will Cole and Quinlan ISD Police Chief Steve Walden are among the five finalists to be the next Greenville chief of police. The finalists are in the running to fill the vacancy left by the retirement of former Greenville Police Chief Scott Smith, who stepped down in February. Also in the running: Sunnyvale police chief Andrew Hawkes; Heather Morris, a retired assistant police chief in Houston; and Christopher Smith, currently an assistant chief deputy with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. A meet-and-greet with the finalists is scheduled for next Tuesday, May 17 at 6 p.m. at the Fletcher Warren Civic in Greenville.
  • If you’re out an about in northeastern Collin County his morning, be aware that firefighters are currently battling a six alarm fire at Texas Bee Supply on Collin County Road 633 near State Highway 78. The Leonard Graphic reports that firefighters from Leonard, Trenton, Blue Ridge, Bailey, Farmersville and Westminster are on site.
