The ceremony at the site, located north of Commerce High School, will be streamed on Facebook Live.

  • In Commerce this morning, the Commerce Independent School District will host a ground-breaking ceremony at the site of the planned new middle school. The site is located just to the north of Commerce High School. Visitors are asked to park in the north, or student, parking lot today. The construction of the new middle school is funded by a $62.5 million bond proposal that was approved by Commerce ISD voters last November. The event is scheduled for 9 o’clock this morning at 3800 Sregit Drive, on the west side of Commerce. If you can’t make it in person, you can watch the event on Facebook Live – look for the Commerce ISD Facebook page.
  • Many school districts around the region are engaged in construction projects planned in part to address increasing enrollment. In Lamar County, the Prairiland Independent School District is giving Blossom Elementary School and Prairiland Junior High School a makeover. The Paris News reports that the improvements won’t be completed until the Spring 2023 semester, as delays have set the work about a month behind schedule. The work at Blossom Elementary should be completed around Feb. 1st, with the projects at Prairiland Junior High concluding in the weeks after that.
  • Mostly sunny and hot once again across Northeast Texas today, but this week, the region is forecast to get a break from triple-digit temperatures. Some areas might get a little rain tomorrow on Wednesday. Today’s outlook, highs in the upper 90s with a slight chance for isolated showers this afternoon. Partly cloudy tonight, lows in the upper 70s. On Tuesday, a 40% chance for showers or thunderstorms, with high temperatures in the low 90s tomorrow afternoon.
