The beginning of the collegiate fall semester follows the start of the public school year, which began earlier this month.

  • The 2022 fall semester begins today for Northeast Texas college students. Classes begin this morning at Texas A&M University-Commerce as well as Paris Junior College.
  • Despite recent rainfall, Northeast Texas remains in long-term drought, according to the National Drought Mitigation Center. Last week, the same storm system that flooded Dallas dropped heavy rain on parts of Northeast Texas, while other parts remained almost dry. Current data show central and southern Hunt County as being in extreme drought, while adjacent counties remain in drought levels ranging from moderate to severe. Any relief this week is likely to happen Tuesday, when current forecasts give a 60 percent chance for showers and thunderstorms.
  • Today, partly sunny skies with highs in the low 90s. We have a 30 percent chance for rain beginning in the late afternoon and continuing through the evening. Currently across the region, we have temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.
