In Paris, drivers on State Loop 286 can expect detours and delays along that route to continue until January. The Texas Department of Transportation is working on a major overhaul of Loop 286 due to safety concerns along the road. The state is closing the medians at 31st Street Northeast, 29th Street Northeast, State Spur 139 and Clement Road. The project also involves extending the westbound left-turn lane at Collegiate Street and lengthening the westbound FM 195 exit ramp. The Paris News reports the state has contracted with Commerce based D.L. Lennon, Inc., for part of the job. Details about the project are available online at TxDOT dot gov.
- Five officers with the Texas Department of Public Safety are facing a formal investigation over their response to the Uvalde school shooting. The Texas Newsroom’s Sergio Martínez-Beltrán reports.
Nearly 400 officers from law enforcement agencies from across Texas responded to the May shooting in Uvalde. Of that number, 91 officers — belong to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The agency now says five of the DPS officers have been referred to the Office of the Inspector General, where a formal investigation into their actions that day will take place. Two of them have been suspended with pay. The response of law enforcement has been highly criticized — they waited over an hour to confront and kill the shooter. I’m Sergio Martínez-Beltrán in Austin.
