The murder trial of former Wolfe City police officer Shaun Lucas has begun in Greenville. Lucas has been charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of Johnathan Price of Wolfe City in October 2020. The shooting occurred while Lucas was on duty and happened during a confrontation at a gas station convenience store. The Greenville Herald Banner reports that testimonial at yesterday’s hearings in the 354th District Court provided a sharp contrast in accounts of the events before the shooting. Lucas has pled not guilty. Lucas was fired by the Wolfe City Police Department shortly after the incident. A Texas Department of Public Safety investigation of the shooting concluded that the use of deadly force was not justified. The Herald Banner reports Lucas is being represented by Robert Rogers. The state is being represented by First Assistant District Attorney Steven Lilley.
