- The Greenville Independent School District has placed its police chief, Oscar Serrato, on administrative leave. The Greenville Herald Banner reports that the district is not giving any explanation for putting Serrato on administrative leave. Serrato was hired in July of last year. He replaced former Greenville ISD police chief Ramon Rodriguez, after Rodriguez was hired by the Caddo Mills ISD. The Herald Banner also reports before coming to Greenville, Serrato had been a police officer for the Terrell ISD for five years. Serrato has also worked as a Tarrant County sheriff’s deputy and as an officer with the Wilmer (Texas) Police Department. Last year, the Greenville ISD approved the use of $520,000 to hire six additional police officers, for a total of nine, so that there would be one officer for each campus.
