Farmersville has annexed a stretch of land along the Northeast Texas Trail in Hunt County.

In Greenville this morning, the Hunt County Commissioners Court is scheduled to review an action by the City of Farmersville. Farmersville, which is in Collin County, recently approved the annexation of land that includes a portion of Hunt County. The land runs along the section of the Northeast Texas Trail between Farmersville, Merit and Celeste. The City of Farmersville is claiming extraterritorial jurisdiction along one mile on either side of the trail and has scheduled a May 6 election to decide whether to create a Municipal Development District. If approved, the district would result in a one-half cent sales tax on sales made within the district’s boundaries.

The commissioners are set to meet at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Auxiliary Courtroom, 2700 Johnson Street in Greenville. The meeting will be open to the public and will also be streamed at on the county’s web site at huntcounty.net.
