Mayor's Post up for Grabs

The City of Greenville’s Mayor’s post and two city council seats are scheduled to be on the ballot for the May 12 municipal election.

According to City Secretary Debbie Newell, candidate packets are available for anyone interested in filing for the election, although no one so far has obtained a packet. Packets are available in Newell’s office in the Municipal Building, 2821 Washington Street. Mayor Tom Oliver has served two consecutive terms and therefore is ineligible to run this time around. City Council place 5, currently held by Bryan Herrin; and City Council place 6, currently held by Betty Franklin, are up for grabs as well; though both incumbents are eligible for re-election if they should choose to do so. Filing for the election is scheduled between February 4thand March 5th. Early voting is set between April 30thand May 8th.
