Alice says eight of her choices for the top 10 movies of 2017 are nominated for Best Picture. She says Gary Oldman is a lock for "Best Actor" for his portrayal of Winston Churchill in "Darkest Hour."

Alice also discusses the sci-fi thriller "Bird Box" and Clint Eastwood's movie, "The Mule."
Herald-Banner movie critic Alice Reese says "Roma," a black-and-white drama about life in a Mexico City neighborhood in the 1970s, is being mentioned as a possible 2018 Academy Awards "Best Picture" contender. It would be the first foreign language film to win the honor. Alice likes "Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle," but says it's too violent for children and will not be in wide release.
