In Commerce, the emergency medical center that closed on Aug. 6 is going to remain closed for the immediate future. Today, Hunt Regional Healthcare officials said COVID patient volume and staffing needs at the Greenville hospital remained too high for the Commerce emergency center to re-open.

  • In Commerce, the emergency medical center that closed on Aug. 6 is going to remain closed for the immediate future. Hunt Regional Health Care closed the Commerce ER so staff acould assist with a surge of COVID-19 patients at Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville. Last Friday, the organization said officials would review perhaps re-opening the Commerce ER this week. Today, Hunt Regional said COVID patient volume and staffing needs at the hospital remained too high for the Commerce emergency center to re-open. As of today, about a third of patients at Hunt Regional Medical Center have COVID. In the hospital’s intensive care unit, that percentage is a little more than half.
  • A Northeast Texas native and former Texas Rangers general manager has died. Eddie Robinson passed away at his ranch in Bastrop yesterday. He was 100 years old, the oldest surviving major leaguer at the time of his death. Robinson was a four-time all-star first baseman also the last surviving member of the 1948 World Series champion Cleveland Indians. Robinson was born in Paris. While in high school, Robinson worked for Northeast Texas Motor Freight delivering produce to Paris grocers. Robinson later attended Paris Junior College. After his playing career, Robinson stayed in baseball as an executive, scout, and advocate for retired players. Robinson was the Texas Rangers general manager during the late 1970s.
