Texas voters will decide Nov. 2 whether to approve eight constitutional amendments, including aproposition that would guarantee residents in long term care facilities, like nursing homes, the right to in-person visits from a designated essential caregiver during times when general visits are restricted.

  • In addition to local ballot items, Texas voters will decide Nov. 2 whether to approve eight constitutional amendments.
  • Proposition 3 would bar the state and local governments from prohibiting or limiting religious services, for any reason including a public health crisis.
  • Prop 6 would guarantee residents in long term care facilities, like nursing homes, the right to in-person visits from a designated essential caregiver.
  • Other constitutional amendments on the ballot include new eligibility requirements for state judges and a proposal to allow charitable raffles at rodeos.
  • An Oct. 28 article in The Daily Beast reports a federal lawsuit has been filed by former Cooper resident Patrick Taylor against the Delta County Sheriff's Office.
  • The suit alleges former Delta County Sheriff Ricky Smith and other officials, including County Judge Jason Murray and County Attorney Jay Garrett knowingly hired an uncertified peace officer, Zachary Williamson, and conspired to conceal his ineligibility.
  • Taylor was arrested by Williamson in October 2019 and charged with DWI. The charge was later dropped.
