Instead, Texas voters will choose to either accept or reject amendments to the state constitution. The various proposals address issues such as eligibility requirements for judges and visitation rights for nursing home residents. Turnout for this type of election is typically low, but groups across the political spectrum are encouraging people to participate.
- In Hunt County, voters will decide on whether to authorize the purchase of bonds for the construction of a new Hunt County sheriff’s office and jail. Commerce voters will decide whether to approve a bond for the construction of a new Commerce Middle School.
- Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is suing the Biden administration over its COVID-19 vaccine mandate for federal contractors. Paxton filed the lawsuit on Friday, calling President Biden's mandate an "encroachment upon individual liberty by forcing employers to require vaccine mandates as a condition of doing business with the federal government." The order is set to take effect December 8th, but the White House has now issued guidance giving contractors flexibility to decide how to enforce it. That includes possible accommodations for those who refuse the shot. More than a dozen other Republican-led states are also suing to block the order.
