Nov. 3 Morning Newscast

Hunt County voters rejected a bond proposal for the construction of a new jail and sheriff's office.

  • The unofficial vote totals this morning had the proposition failing by 136 votes. Turnout was light, with a little fewer than 9 percent of Hunt County registered voters casting ballots. The current Hunt County Detention Center also houses the Hunt County Sheriff’s Office and was built in 2003. Hunt County Judge Bobby Stovall says the current building was badly constructed and is not sustainable.
  • Commerce voters approved a new Commerce Middle School building.
  • Lone Oak voters approved various school district property improvements.
  • West Tawakoni voters approved a freeze on property taxes for seniors.
  • Voters in Poetry approved a sales tax to fund street repairs.
