The U.S. Justice Department is joining the legal battle over Texas' new voting restrictions approved by Republican lawmakers last summer.

  • The Dept. of Justice filed a lawsuit Thursday targeting provisions of Senate Bill 1 that set new ID requirements for mail-in voting and new restrictions for helping non-English speaking voters and those with disabilities cast a ballot. Republicans claim the voting measures that take effect next month are necessary to prevent voter fraud.
