District competition started for the Sulphur Springs Wildcats last Friday night with a game against the Mount Pleasant Tigers, and they were hoping to get a significant contribution from one of their stars to open their District 14-4A schedule.

Willy Ivery definitely delivered, gutting the Tigers for a season-high 243 yards and six touchdowns on just 15 carries. He also burned them through the air, catching three passes for 69 yards and another score. In total Ivery put up 312 yards of total offense with seven scores, enough to earn him ESTN.fm/Dairy Queen Player of the Week honors. The Wildcats won 63-28.

The 5-8, 180 senior running back for the 'Cats scored on rushes of 1, 5, 23, 49, 55 and 67 yards and scored on a 46-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Larry Pryor, who accounted for 304 yards and three scores of his own.

Ivery has 751 rushing yards with 17 touchdowns so far this season, and he also has caught 11 passes for 172 yards and another score. Over his three-year career on varsity, Ivery has 1,731 yards rushing with 40 touchdowns and 1,763 receiving yards with 20 touchdowns.

Ivery has accounted for over 4,155 all-purpose yards and 62 total scores in his career. This has earned him FBS offers from Colorado State, New Mexico, North Texas, Texas State and Toledo.

Ivery's remarkable season is made even more impressive when noting that he missed one game completely after being injured early in Sulphur Springs' season-opening loss to Tyler Lee.

Ivery and the Wildcats (4-2, 1-0) head to Texas High (5-1, 1-0) this Friday night in a fierce rivalry game with huge District 14-4A implications.
