Texas A&M University-Commerce (3-3) couldn’t handle Southeastern Oklahoma State (3-2) down the stretch at the Field House Sunday, losing 78-66.
Melanie Ransom hit back to back 3-pointers to open up the first quarter for the Lions. SOSU shot the last 5-of-7 points to close the half. However the Lions were perfect from the free throw line 8-8, despite only shooting less than 32% from the field at halftime.
A&M-Commerce came out the half noticeably more aggressive offensively, led by Jenna Price. She went on a 7-0 run, including back to back 3-pointers.
In the third quarter, the Field House had quite the scare when Princess Davis went down with an awkward neck injury after knocking into Artaejah Gay. Davis was taken off on a stretcher and didn’t return for the contest.
Emotions were still high shortly after as the Lions went on a drought for three minutes until Gay and Price hit back to back shots.
A&M-Commerce didn’t seem to have an answer when SOSU went on a 7-0 run for less than a minute in the fourth quarter. The Storm outscored the Lions 22-13 in the final eight minutes of the game.
SOSU’s Katie Webb led all scorers with a double-double, 19 points and 11 rebounds, shooting nearly 50% from the floor.
Price led the Lions with 17 points and 8 rebounds.
The Lions’ next game is at Cameron this Thursday, November 30 at 5:30 p.m.
