Commerce – With the appropriation of and $11,000 match by the city of Commerce, an extra $14,000 has been earned. The $25,000 total is part of an approved Audio/Visual grant through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The grant, originally applied for a few years back, is being awarded to the Commerce Fire and Police Departments. The money will go toward the purchasing of audio/video equipment to help improve and expand upon both department's communication and investigation capabilities, such as reviewing surveillance tapes of crimes. The $11,000 being submitted by the city will be paid for through its reserve fund.
