Ladonia – While the conditions of two recently hospitalized Ladonia residents is improving; a fund to help assist in medical fees is not.
34-year-old Katrina Baker and her one-year-old son Gannon Northcutt survived an accident near Longview over the Memorial Day weekend that killed three others. A memorial fund for the two, however, has only generated $130. Donations can be made to the Patriot Bank in Honey Grove and family members have also set up donation buckets in Ladonia and Honey Grove, with plans to set up more throughout the region.
A family member tells KETR that Gannon is very responsive and about a week from being transported from LSU Health Sciences Center to Baylor for rehab on his broken leg. Katrina is still unable to speak, but can communicate and is showing signs of awareness. She suffered broken ribs, a broken pelvis, compound fracture in her arm, plus brain swelling.
Killed in the accident were 18-year-old Kimberly Nicole Northcutt, and two girls ages 12 and 13, all from Ladonia.
Reports indicate the accident happened when an SUV, driven by Baker, hydroplaned on the wet pavement and skipped into the path of a truck on Highway 149. The driver of the truck, from Longview, was treated and released. Everyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seatbelt and that the baby was riding in a child safety seat, according to reports.
Money can be donated to Baker and Northcutt by calling the Patriot Bank in Honey Grove at 903-378-7321. Checks can also be mailed to 201 W. Main St, Honey Grove, Texas, 75446, or just stopping by there. All checks should be payable to the "Northcutt Memorial Fund."
