Greenville – The Greenville ISD meets Tuesday to discuss drug testing of its students, plus a recently received grant that will improve the school commute.
The board approved a drug testing policy in May 2009. They are to receive statistical data on the project Tuesday.
Under the policy, students in grades 7-12 who participate in extracurricular and school-sponsored events, drivers and those who have been volunteered by their parents are subject to the random tests.
The board will also receive a report on the $1.6 million awarded as part of the Safe Routes to School grant, which will fund infrastructure improvements at the district's four elementary campuses.
A number of other school districts and cities will also benefit from the grant, including Commerce, Paris, Farmersville and Rockwall.
