Students to Attend A&M-C Veterans Vigil Youth Program

By Brent Lyday

Commerce – More than 200 area sixth-graders will experience the 2010 Texas A&M University-Commerce Veterans Vigil and learn about military history at the Veterans Vigil Youth Program on Friday, Nov. 5 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Sam Rayburn Student Center conference rooms.

The students will listen to speeches from multiple military personnel, including Robert Rex Bunch, American Legion Commander of District 4, Department of Texas, Joseph Webber, A&M-Commerce dean of students emeritus and chief warrant officer-5 USMCR (retired), and Angelo Farias, corporal.

After the opening remarks, a video honoring the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) will be shown. The students will then hear from the three speakers about their experiences in the military and the history of the American flag. Students will then sign flags that will be sent to troops overseas. Following the last speaker, the students will be dismissed in groups to visit the Vigil site and take photos.

Bags filled with U.S. Navy items, small American flags donated by the American Legion Post #1 and red shirts will be given to each student.
