By Scott Harvey

Commerce – President of the Northeast Texas Children's Museum, Alton Biggs, was named this year's Citizen of the Year during Thursday's annual Commerce Chamber of Commerce banquet.

Biggs was credited with his commitment to promoting education and the City of Commerce, which is documented in the many releases and newsletters he writes for the community.

Also representing the Museum was its director, Sharline Freemen, who earned the Employee of the Year distinction, while Employer of the Year went to Interim City Manager Marc Clatyon.

Public Safety Officer was given to Terry Miller and James Hildebrand, whose actions saved lives in last year's shooting at the Commerce Wal-Mart. The two received a long standing ovation for their efforts.
