Cooper ISD's Marshall to take top job at Palestine

By Cindy Roller

Cooper – It is just a matter of a few weeks and Cooper ISD will be seeking out a new superintendent to replace Jason Marshall.

In last Wednesday's meeting Palestine Independent School District's Board of Trustees voted unanimously to name Marshall as "lone finalist" for its superintendent's job during a closed session that only lasted 8 minutes.

Under state law, Marshall's first official day will be no sooner than Aug. 4.

"It all happened very quickly," said Marshall on his approaching move. "I was not actively seeking to move. We [Marshall's family] hope it will be the right fit."

Marshall has spent the past four years serving as superintendent of the Cooper while also playing an active role in the community including the Lion's Club President for the past two years. He previously served as principal at Pleasant Grove High School outside of Texarkana for three years.

Marshall's education career has also included stops in Mount Pleasant, Leonard and Lipan.

"The idea of where they want the district to go is the same as here," Marshall said, noting PISD is a bigger school.

The district is wrapping up a $64 million bond package from May 2009 which called for improvements and renovations to all of the district's campuses.
