Equity lawsuit gains more supporters

COMMERCE - The Commerce ISD has joined in the fight for funding equity among Texas public schools.

Trustees on Monday agreed to spend no more than $1 per its 2,100-student weighted average daily attendance. The money will go toward litigation to be filed by the Equity Center, which represents over 600 districts.

Dozens of other school districts are either considering or have already elected to support the lawsuit, including the Paris ISD, who approved the measure last week at a cost of $4,300. The Bonham ISD also approved to be an un-named plaintiff in the lawsuit, agreeing Monday to provide $2,529.

Virtually every school district receives a different funding amount from the state. The Equity Center is expected to file the lawsuit sometime next month.
