Commerce closer to recycling program

By Scott Harvey

Commerce – Keep Commerce Beautiful plans to issue flyers to inform residents of a recycling program for the city where items can be brought to a central location.

Details of the initiative were presented by the organizations' Anne Mills during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

They're working to have a bin placed at the Wastewater Plant on FM 3218. Residents will be able to bring their plastic, glass, cardboard and paper to the station on the first Saturday of every month, between 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Keep Commerce Beautiful is also looking to staff the site on a weekday, preferably Monday, so that other residents and businesses can bring by supplies.

Residents living just outside the Commerce City limits will be allowed to obtain a permit to recycle at the center. Those within the city limits will need to provide a proof of residency, such as a water bill.

The first few months will serve as a trial period during which they'll determine how often the bin gets filled and how often it needs emptied.
