Local jazz connoisseur, former KETR volunteer dies

CAMPBELL - Longtime on-air jazz personality and KETR volunteer Bruce Tater passed away October 17. He was 83.

Tater, of Campbell, worked for more than 32 years in radio for KERA in Dallas and as a volunteer with KETR, where he worked alongside Mark Chapman during The Art of Sound. Once a week, Tater would share his love and knowledge of music with listeners throughout Northeast Texas.

He donated his vast collection of jazz records to the University of North Texas jazz library.

Tater was a graduate of Wharton College in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Korean War veteran.  

Private services will be held by the family.
