MLK Jr. awards ceremonies planned locally

Over 100 people and organizations will be recognized during awards ceremonies next month in honor of the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

On Sunday, January 15, the Hunt County African American Leadership Conference will conduct the 2012 Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Awards Celebration.

Awards will be given to those who demonstrate Dr. King’s legacy of raising public consciousness to social justices, securing progress on civil rights, and loving and serving humanity.

It will takes place at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 202 Champion Lane in Commerce at 2:30 p.m.  Jason Cunningham, Owner of Benson Brothers Wrecker Service, will be the master of ceremony.

The following day, January 16, is the 21st Annual Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Awards Ceremony, conducted by the East Caney Missionary Baptist Church and the Hopkins County African American Leadership Conference.

Dallas’ Shaun Rabb, KDFW Fox 4News Reporter, will serve asthe keynote speaker.  Dr. Dan Jones, President/CEO of Texas A&M University-Commerce, will be the master of ceremony.

The event takes place at 7 p.m. that evening, at the Morning Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 208 Fuller Street in Sulphur Springs.

The public is invited to both events.
