Delta County Sheriff: Martin Still in the Area

MANHUNT UPDATE: CECIL MARTIN IS IN CUSTODY OF THE SACHSE POLICE DEPARTMENT.

Unconfirmed reports say it was an all day process of locating him today as he had stolen yet another patrol car by escaping from the caged area and several other vehicles throughout the day. At the moment he is awaiting to be transported to Dallas County were charges will be filed. His arm tattoos were the key to identifying him. There are currently 6 warrants for him in Delta County and 52 in Hopkins as well as several from today in the Dallas County area.  It is believed his is the leader of the rash of burglaries and car thefts.

TUESDAY'S UPDATE

The Delta County Sheriff's office released a statement this afternoon regarding the ongoing manhunt for Cecil Martin.The press release follows:

On Monday, December 3, 2012 at 2:33 p.m. the Delta County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a residential burglary in progress on CR 1100. The homeowner had arrived home and found that unknown persons were in the act of burglarizing the residence.

One white male suspect was in a bronze colored SUV with handicap license plates. The bronze SUV fled the scene when the homeowner approached the house. Another suspect fled the residence on foot and was captured a short while later after pursuit by the Delta County Sheriff's Office and DPS Troopers from Delta County, Hopkins County, and Lamar County. The suspect that was captured after the foot pursuit was identified as Cecil Eldon Martin.

Suspect Martin was transported back to the burglary scene for eyewitness identification. Suspect Martin was handcuffed behind his back and belted in the front seat of an unmarked Delta County Sheriff's Office vehicle during the identification process. While the Investigator was out of the vehicle, suspect Martin was able to slip the handcuffs to the front and drove away in the unmarked vehicle. An area search was initiated with the Delta County Sheriff's Deputies, DPS personnel including the DPS helicopter, and Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office personnel. The Delta County unmarked vehicle was later found abandoned on East Sherman Ave. near S. E. 10th St in Cooper.

Cecil Martin is believed to still be in the Cooper - Sulphur Springs area and multiple Law Enforcement agencies are continuing to locate him. Cecil Martin is wanted on multiple felony warrants issued by both Delta County and Hopkins County.

A cash reward of up to $ 1,000.00 will be paid by Lake Country Crime Stoppers at 903-885-2020 for information leading to Cecil Martin's arrest.
