Paris Chisum Mustangs: 2013 football preview

Chisum High's football program has been needing a guy like new head coach Bo Wasurick for a while. The Mustangs cantered to an 0-10 record last year, so it’s no surprise that there’s a different man in charge now. Wasurick’s specialty is offense – he’s been an offensive coordinator at Rockwall Heath and Flower Mound. A former tight end at the University of Minnesota, Wasurick knows first-hand what good football looks like.

Chisum struggled to put points on the board in 2012. The Mustangs should benefit from the continued development of junior quarterback Nick Tisdell. Opposing defenses will key on senior wideout Geron Hicks, an all-district first-teamer. Jalen Record and Tyler Hicks will likely split running duties.

The Mustangs’ defense will keep Chisum in most games if they aren’t worn down early by too many quick three-and-outs by the offense. All-district defensive end Kolton Hasley, cornerback Jared Matthews and two-way lineman Mytchel Naylor are important elements of the Mustangs’ defense.

Chisum’s best chance for a district win is the Nov. 8 season finale at Como-Pickton. That would be a long time to wait for a victory, but the Mustangs have opportunities to break the program’s losing streak with the season opener at Pattonville Prairiland and the following week at Howe.

Head Coach: Bo Wasurik 2012 Results: 0-10, 0-6 in District 8-2A Division 2 Top Players: WR Geron Hicks, DE Kolton Hasley, CB Jared Matthews.
