Amanda Shires

Texas native Amanda Shires has a voice like an angel, but she can also song write and sing like a demon.  The juxtaposition between her soft, sweet tones and the intensity of her lyrics is often striking, and her fiddle licks add even more flavor to the sound scape.

Shires got her start as a youth playing fiddle with members of Bob Wills' band The Texas Playboys and Billy Joe Shaver. Now married to Grammy Award-winner Jason Isbell and living in Nashville, her latest record My Piece Of Land contains songwriting inspired by her time expecting the couple's first child. The songs on this new album reflect a warmer, more positive vibe from some of her earlier records, which included such spine-tingling murder ballads as I Kept Watch Like Doves and Deep Dark Below.

Amanda called in to Notably Texan recently and talked about her current tour, the new album, and much more.

More about the artist can be found at amandashiresmusic.com. Her next tour stop in the area is on December 7 at The Kessler in Dallas.

Notably Texas airs weekdays Noon-3pm on KETR.
