Missing teenager reportedly deceased

COOPER - A Cooper teenager was found dead Tuesday, four days after he had gone missing.

Family members of 16-year-old Stephen Martin say the boy was found near Country Club Road, just off of FM 154. The cause of the death was not immediately known, but the investigation points to suicide.

Martin had been living with his grandmother some 300 yards from where he was found Tuesday, in a wooded area near a creek. His family previously reported he left for a walk Friday afternoon and then they never heard from him.

According to his mother, who lives in Louisiana, Stephen was on several medications.

The Delta County Sheriff’s office had not issued an Amber Alert, as the teen was not believed to have been abducted. They were treating Martin’s case as if he was a possible runaway.
