Artists to sign calendars at Veterans Memorial benefit

Cole Mattern, a 4th grader at Fannidel Elementary, signs Veterans Memorial Calendars at the Dec. 3 Chili-Stew Cookoff in Cooper

PARIS - Elementary students throughout the Red River Valley embark on a book signing tour Friday.

Artists of the recently published Children’s Calendar for the Red River Valley Veterans Memorial will be at banks in Bogata, Bonham, Honey Grove, Paris, Reno and Roxton between 1 and 5 p.m. A list of banks is below.

The two-year calendar features renderings from 27 artists from the 27 elementary schools of the Red River Valley. Counties are Delta, Fannin, Lamar, Red River and Choctaw. Each calendar is $10 and all proceeds benefit the Veterans Memorial, currently under construction in Paris.

Elementary students recently completed another benefit for the memorial, the Pennies for Patriots campaign. The 1,020,000 pennies collected helped create 34 granite pavers for the Memorial. Seven pavers will be engraved with the names of WWI Choctaw Codetalkers and 27 paves for the Texas Revolutionary Soldiers.
