Police chase, residential shootout under investigation

Dead end area of Bonham and Bois D Arc streets where shots were reportedly fired Friday.

COMMERCE - Multiple shots were fired and four suspects arrested following a Friday morning pursuit in Commerce.

The incident occurred before 7 a.m. as Hopkins County investigators were monitoring a vehicle with stolen property at a convenience store on Live Oak Street.

When deputies attempted to make contact with the suspects, they took off, ramming a deputy patrol car in the process.  A chain link fence at another business in the 1500 block of West Neal was damaged by the suspect’s vehicle.

The pursuit continued thru neighborhood streets and went to the dead end area of Bonham and Bois D Arc streets. Commerce Resources Officer Alex Suarez says several shots were fired in that location and damage was caused to the yard of a home along Bois D Arc.  Two passengers, a white female and a white male fled from the vehicle.  The female was detained by a Commerce resident at gun point in a backyard in that area.  A search for the white male began immediately.

Deputies along with Commerce Police Officers continued to pursue the suspect’s vehicle to the area of County Road 4400 were a white male was taken into custody at that location.  He was arrested and has been transported to Hunt County where he will be booked in on several charges including Assault on a Police Officer, Felony Evading Using a Vehicle and Theft.

The white male suspect that fled on foot from the area of Bois D Arc Street was picked up by a white male in a vehicle in the downtown square area.  That suspect was arrested a few minutes later during a traffic stop in the parking lot of the animal shelter on O’Neal Street.  He has been transported to Hunt County where he is being held on a Parole Violation Warrant.  The driver of the vehicle was arrested on traffic violations and has been booked in at the Commerce Police Department.

No names were released. The investigation is being conducted by Commerce Police Department, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Rangers.
