President Jones: SACS warning lifted

COMMERCE - The warning issued to Texas A&M University-Commerce by the school’s accrediting agency has been lifted.

President Dan Jones informed faculty and staff in an email this week that the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Board of Trustees voted on the item Monday during their annual conference in Orlando.

The warning was issued earlier this year as the result of a judgment by a peer review team that the university had not satisfactorily documented its compliance with Core Requirement 2.8 of the Principles of Accreditation.  This Core Requirement states that the university must document that it has a sufficient number of full-time faculty to ensure the quality of its academic programs.

A detailed response to the warning was quickly issued by A&M-Commerce which included comprehensive documentation about the critical and central role that full-time faculty play in the life of the university in both teaching and governance.

In the email, President Dan Jones said, “Please join me in thanking Provost Dr. Larry Lemanski, Interim Associate Provost Dr. Sandy Weeks, and the staff of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness for their tremendous work in gathering and presenting the data that led to this outcome.  Most of all, thank you, our faculty and staff, for your dedication and hard work.  It is through your efforts, as described in our written response to SACS, that the university has been able to provide compelling evidence of the quality of its academic programs.”
