Rubbermaid discussion planned by city council

Jerrod Knight

GREENVILLE - The Greenville City Council meets Tuesday in executive session to discuss the status of the Newell Rubbermaid plant.

Officials with the company notified the city on December 6 that they intend to shut down operations next June. Approximately 500 people are employed at the facility, which opened in 1980.

A company spokesperson says the plan is to move production to other plants in the U.S.
