GREENVILLE - The indictment issued Friday by the Hunt County Grand Jury indicates Brandon Herrera was beaten to death or possibly strangled and/or smothered.
His caregivers, Gabriela Ortiz and Arturo Vega, were arrested shortly after Herrera’s death on July 18. Hunt County authorities said they received a call from Ortiz the night of the incident from a residence on FM 513, stating that the child was not breathing.
Herrera’s parents live in Dallas. He was believed to have been in the care of Ortiz and Vega for several weeks at the time of his death.
