Blackouts delay university operations Thursday

COMMERCE - Officials at Texas A&M University-Commerce were working to permanently restore power to campus as of 3:15 p.m. after intermittent outages had crippled the campus since late Thursday morning.

According to University Safety Manager Derek Preas, officials believe they’ve identified the problem and were working to restore power to the remaining five buildings in the dark. Preas was hopeful lights would be back on by 5 p.m.

The outages were believed to be limited to just the university. Blackouts were lasting as long as an hour before power would kick back on, in some cases, for just merely minutes.

Several buildings on campus, including Binnion Hall, which houses KETR, had suffered outages at some point throughout the day. KETR’s on-air signal was still operable during this time, while online services were interrupted.
