COMMERCE - Despite severe drought that has threatened water supply levels for some Northeast Texas cities; the City of Commerce finds itself in good shape.

Public Utilities Superintendent Brian Creed offered the report during Tuesday’s council meeting.

He says that current levels at Lake Tawakoni, from which the city receives its water, are robust. Rainfall over the past month has allowed the lake to add another two feet. Should lake levels rise another foot, Creed says he’ll recommend the city emerge from its Stage 1 Drought Contingency Plan – implemented last summer - which calls for a voluntary reduction of water use.

According to Creed, should lake levels start to fall again the city may have to resort to an emergency pump, but only after water levels decrease by three feet from its current stage.
