SULPHUR SPRINGS - A life prison term has been handed down in Sulphur Springs for a registered sex offender who reportedly violated his probation.

72-year-old Billy Joe Smith received the punishment before the 8th District Court.

Smith was originally sentenced in Hopkins County in 2005 to four years in prison for injury to a child and 10 years probation on each of 9 counts of aggravated sexual assault of a 10 year old girl.
