PLANO - The University flag at A&M-Commerce is at half staff Wednesday in honor of James L. “Jim” Toler, who died February 18 in Plano after a long battle with Parkinson’s. He would have turned 77 Tuesday.

Toler received a B.A. degree in 1957 from Baylor University and a M.A. degree in 1961 from East Texas State University. He was active in many business, professional, civic, and political organizations in the Garland area. In addition to serving on the East Texas State Board of Regents, Toler served as director of the Baylor University Medical Center Foundation.

A link to his complete obituary can be found here.

The ETSU family has lost three former board members in the past three months. Garland Button was appointed by the governor to the Board of Regents in 1969 and was the University’s first board chairman. He died in December at age 93. In January, Raymond Cameron died at the age of 92. Cameron served 11 years as a member of the Board of Regents. Both Button and Cameron were graduates of East Texas State Teacher’s College.
