Groundbreaking planned for new City Hall

SULPHUR SPRINGS - City and community leaders will gather in front of the old Sulphur Springs library Friday morning for the start of construction on new city offices.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. on the David Street side of the library.

The city contracted with KBL Restoration last November at a cost of $450,000 for the renovation effort, which is expected to take about a year to complete. Crews have already removed the asbestos and lead-based paint from the interior of the old library. Some demolition has also taken place.

Upon completion, most city administration offices will make the move next door. The current municipal building at 125 South Davis will continue to house the Sulphur Springs Police, water and utilities departments.
