COMMERCE - Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta will welcome over 100 new members, its largest induction class, at a ceremony set for Wednesday, March 21 on the A&M-Commerce campus.

The two first-year honor society groups represent students who’ve earned at least a 3.5 GPA in their first semester at the university as a first time college student.

Members of Phi Eta Sigma are also eligible to receive undergraduate and graduate scholarships that the national organization offers. The national organization awards more than $160,000 in scholarships each year.

According to Faculty Advisor Elva Resendez, this is significant because not only have they grown in quantity of freshmen, but in quality of first year freshmen.

Phi Eta Sigma and Alpha Lambda Delta President Corrie Hermann was inducted into the honor society two years ago when just 19 people were selected.

“I am amazed and very excited at this growth,” Hermann said. “Our group gives our first year students who are invited for membership a place to showcase their academic excellence as well as gives them a place where they have an opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.”

Wednesday’s induction ceremony is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Sam Rayburn Student Center. More information about the two honor society chapters is available here.
