The stage is nearly set for thousands of college seniors scheduled to graduate this weekend from Paris Junior College, Texas A&M University-Commerce and across the region.
Ceremonies at the PJC campus are scheduled for Friday evening from Noyes Stadium in Paris beginning at 7 p.m. Should weather become an issue, an indoor ceremony will take place at the Hunt Physical Education Center. More than 750 candidates have applied for graduation.
In Commerce, three ceremonies are scheduled Saturday, all inside the Field House, beginning with undergraduate activities at 8:30 a.m.
The university is scheduled to honor former U.S. Olympian John Carlos with an Honorary Doctor of Letters degree at the 3 p.m. commencement for master’s and doctoral graduates. He will also serve as the keynote speaker for the event. Carlos attended A&M-Commerce (then East Texas State University) from 1966 to 1967 on a full scholarship for track and field, becoming the university’s first Lone Star Conference champion.
