GREENVILLE - Governor Perry makes a visit the newly redrawn House District 2 on Wednesday to speak on his proposed “Texas Budget Compact” that afternoon in Greenville.

In April, Perry asked politicians running for office this year to comply with the compact’s principals of smaller government and lower taxes. Republican legislators have expressed support for the plan, while Texas Democrats say it will tie the hands of lawmakers when it comes to current challenges like school finance.

Introducing the Governor will be current House 2 Representative Dan Flynn, who is challenged by George Alexander in his re-election bid.

Several groups have signed on as honorary co-hosts for the event to welcome Governor Perry to East Texas and the new House District 2. Honorary co-hosts include Hunt County GOP Chairman David Hale, Hopkins County GOP Chairman Donnie Wisenbaker, Van Zandt County GOP Chairman Lance Lentz, Hunt County GOP Club, Greenville ISD Superintendent Don Jeffries, Boles ISD Superintendent Graham Sweeny and State Senator Bob Duell.

The event begins at 5 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 at the Landmark, located at 2980 Lee Street Greenville.
