AUSTIN - The Hunt County jobless rate rose to its highest ever for the month of May at 8.6 percent.

The planned closure of a local manufacturing plant and influx of students looking for summer work is believed to have contributed to an increase in jobless claims, 353 more than in April

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, the economic outlook for the region showed mixed results, with Hopkins County holding steady at 6.2 percent unemployment, still one of the lowest in the area, while Delta County surged from 6.5 percent in April to 7.4 percent unemployment in May.

Fannin County also rose .4 percent to 8.6. Elsewhere throughout the region the jobless rate for Lamar (8.8) and Rains (7.2) counties both increased by .3 and .2 percentage points, respectively; while Collin and Rockwall counties both fell to 6.2 percent.
