Hunt County Sheriff seeks five percent pay raise for employees

GREENVILLE - Sheriff Randy Meeks is also seeking to return the Environmental Enforcement Office back under the control under the Sheriff’s Office, the reinstatement of two positions which were removed from last year’s budget and the addition of a warrant office.

Additionally, he wants to establish a sheriff’s substation in the southern part of the county.

According to Meeks, it will take about $650,000 to fill all requests and add about $22 to the property tax bill of the average homeowner. Without the substation, the tax rate would increase of $8.60 more in taxes.

Hunt County is currently operating under a $32.9 million budget and tax rate of 50.75 cents per $100 valuation.
