Christmas Tree Victim of Storms
There was one significant piece of damage in Greenville from the storms earlier this week.Severe thunderstorms which blew through the region Wednesday night, followed by a windstorm associated with a powerful cold front early Thursday morning, caused extensive damage in some locations.
It also made Christmas not quite as bright in Greenville. The City of Greenville Christmas tree, a 30-foot Balsam Fir which stood in front of the Police and Courts Building at 3000 Lee Street downtown, was knocked down and out of its stand as the storms swept Hunt County Wednesday night.
It was decided not to erect the tree back in place and redecorate it, which likely would have taken crews of city employees at least a day to accomplish.
Today is the last day the City of Greenville offices will be open before Christmas.
