After murder of assistant D.A., Kaufman shooting suspects at large

Kaufman County

Kaufman County assistant district attorney Mark Hasse was shot dead outside the county courthouse Thursday, county officials said. The shooters, two men, remain at large, they said.

Kaufman County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Pat Laney said the two ambushed Hasse near his car and shot him multiple times in a parking lot at about 8:50 a.m. They then fled, Laney said.

Mark Hasse was a felony prosecutor who headed murder and drug cases, officials said. He was chief prosecutor of the felony section of the 422nd district court.

The Texas Department of Public Safety sent out an alert for troopers to be on lookout for a silver "older model" Ford Taurus. The alert said the two suspects are wearing all black and at least one is in a tactical vest. Kaufman County Crime Stoppers has issued a $10,000 reward for information leading to who is responsible.

The Dallas Morning News reports that Hasse was formerly a well-known prosecutor in Dallas.
