Joe Strong, county commissioner, dies

Joe Strong, Fannin County Commissioner for Precinct 4, died on Wednesday.

Fannin County Judge Spanky Carter said Wednesday that Strong died after suffering a heart attack. Strong had been battling cancer for several months, Carter said.

"The County sends its condolonces to Joe's family and friends," Carter said. "Joe Strong was an important part of the Commissioners Court and Fannin County and he will be greatly missed."

Carter is responsible for appointing a new commissioner for Precinct 4, which includes parts of the City of Bonham as well as parts of central and southern Fannin County. The next election for the Precinct 4 office will occur in November 2014.

The Fannin County Commissioners Court meets next on June 17. The search process for a new Precinct 4 commissioner has been added to the agenda, county staff said Friday.

A funeral Mass for Strong will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 314 N. Rusk Ave., Denison.
